Longtime host of the “Reading Rainbow” — as well as actor from “Star Trek: The Next Generation” — LeVar Burton was involved in a five-car accident in West Los Angeles.
According to Los Angeles police, Burton was driving his 2006 Mercedes on Beverly Boulevard at about 7:40 pm on Monday, July 13, 2009 when a 74-year-old woman in a Scion made an improper left turn in front of him, sparking a chain reaction auto accidents. After Burton’s car crash with the older lady, Burton lost control of his automobile and hit three parked cars, causing thousands of dollars in property damage.

LAPD detective said that both Burton and the older lady were in pain after the auto accident. Burton and the 74-year-old were treated and released at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The police did not issue and moving violations to either driver for the car crash.
LeVar Burton, 52, played Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge in the TV series “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Burton is also well known as the host of “Reading Rainbow,” a TV show on public broadcasting that encouraged young children to read books. He also acted in the TV miniseries “Roots.”
