Bengals WR Chris Henry Dies In Truck Accident

“He was doing everything right.  He was doing everything right.  My grandma always says you never question the man upstairs on decisions he makes.  Everyone makes mistakes, but I don’t see how Chris was supposed to go already.  Especially when he was on the right path.”

That’s how Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco reacted about the his teammate, wide receiver Chris Henry, who died in a fatal truck accident this week.  Henry was injured after falling out of the back of a pickup truck about eight miles north of downtown Charlotte, North Carolina.  Henry died as a result of his injuries early Thursday morning 18 hours after the truck accident.

Our wrongful death lawyers know that tragedy like this strikes when it’s completely unexpected.  Chris Henry unfortunately becomes another statistic in the familiar 18- to 34-year-old range of African-Americans whose lives were tragically cut short for one reason or another.  The exact cause of Henry’s death hasn’t been released yet, but investigators are looking into what happened.

According to details, Henry and his fiancée, Loleini Tonga, got into a domestic dispute just before noon on Wednesday.  At some point, Tonga decided to leave the house.  When Tonga got into a pickup truck and began to leave, Henry jumped into the bed of the truck.  While driving around curves in a residential neighborhood, Henry fell out and suffered fatal injuries.

Henry’s death was a shock to his teammates and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.  Henry had several arrests in his early five-year NFL career, but he seemed to be making improvements.  Henry had 12 catches for 236 yards to start the season before he broke his left arm in a game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Our wrongful death attorneys believe that some wrongful deaths can be prevented by taking a precaution or two, but other wrongful deaths are so unexpected that nothing could have been done to keep them from happening.  The lives of Henry’s remaining family (his fiancée and three children) have changed dramatically as a result of the unexpected.  Truck beds are meant to carry cargo loads, not human beings.  So please learn from Henry’s tragic death and travel in the cabin only.
