Doctor Facing Medical Malpractice Lawsuits Maintains Innocence
One of the biggest joys in life is the birth of one’s child. But what if the medical procedures employed by your doctor directly led to the wrongful death of your newborn baby?
Infant deaths and children’s injuries are unfortunately something that Illinois doctor Peter Rosi has had to deal with. That’s why he’s currently the defendant in an Illinois medical malpractice lawsuit because he’s accused of causing those very things.
As medical malpractice attorneys, we know that mistakes by health-care providers often result in personal injury and wrongful death. In this particular lawsuit, it’s alleged that medical malpractice caused personal injury injury to an unborn child. When a doctor’s mistake causes you injury, you have the right to file a medical malpractice lawsuit against them.
It’s also important to note that Dr. Rosi’s lawsuit must go through the legal process before he can be found guilty.
Dr. Rosi maintains that he is proud of the way he approaches medicine, even though he’s been the defendant in over 10 medical malpractice lawsuits. Each medical malpractice claim singles him out as the cause of the wrongful deaths of infant children. Families allege that Dr. Rosi repeatedly made mistakes during home births and pediatric care that led to children’s injuries, including brain injuries and wrongful death.
Dr. Rosi allegedly told these pregnant women — whose home births ran into problems — to drive long distances to hospitals where he had privileges. In one situation, a woman claims that he told her to crouch on all fours in the back seat of her car — while in child labor — so that a family member could driver her at speeds of 75 mph to a hospital that was about an hour away. Her son, Christopher Michael Meline, was a still-born wrongful death in June 1996.
That woman, Sara Meline, passed other hospitals (seven hospitals were closer than the one that Dr. Rosi recommended) that could have given her the emergency C-section she needed. Dr. Rosi testified under oath that he didn’t have privileges at any of those medical centers and didn’t feel that the case was an emergency.
When questioned about his handling of this case, Dr. Rosi testified, “Babies die.”
As medical malpractice attorneys, we are appalled by that statement. While we don’t know the context of his statement, we hope that this isn’t the justification for a medical practioner’s poor decision. Before you go, here’s another statement to remember: Doctors make mistakes, and when they do, you should think about hiring a knowledgeable medical malpractice lawyer to help you hold them accountable.
