Medical Malpractice Lawyers Battle Tort Reform
You’re supposed to have complete faith in the people assigned with the responsibility of keeping you healthy, but our San Deigo personal injury attorneys know that mistakes happen. Sometimes, these errors can lead to medical malpractice causing personal injuries or even wrongful death.
With that in mind, a handful of trial lawyers known as the American Association for Justice (AAJ) has begun a campaign to show the issues of medical mistakes and how important malpractice cases are, according to Renal and Urology News.  The group created a website (www.98000reasons.org) that hopes to get its visitors to get in touch with Congress to urge them to “put patients first.”

The new website argues against the practice of having special courts hear cases where medical treatment went wrong.
According to the AAJ, these “medical tribunals” allegedly deprive clients of their seventh amendment right to a jury trial and the petition goes on to argue that medical malpractice reform should not be part of the health care reform bill. It says that reducing the amount of medical errors is the best way to reduce the amount of medical malpractice lawsuits.
On the website, visitors can see videos from families of patients who died or patients themselves who have been seriously injured from medical mistakes. The American Association for Justice hopes people will use the “take action” button on the website that forwards them to a petition page where e-mails can be automatically sent to the Senate.
“Please, don’t sacrifice patient safety to achieve reform,” a direct quote from 98000reasons.org.
Our firm’s San Diego personal injury lawyers could not agree with that statement any more.  Medical mistakes can cause physical disabilities, and – according to statistics – 98,000 people die every year from preventable medical malpractice.  You don’t ever want to become one of those statistics.

Do you think that health care reform is going to happen in the next five years? Are these medical tribunals really working towards a solution that benefits all Americans?
