An Indiana judge has ruled that the the wrongful death of a 4-year old Tippecanoe County girl is due in part to the negligence of a former police officer who lied during a deposition as to whether or not he had seen her during a visit to her home.
As wrongful death lawyers, we believe that if civil servants do not do their job causing personal injury or wrongful death to any individual, they should be held liable for their negligence. On the job negligence can cause personal injury, pain and suffering and — worst case — wrongful death.
The current Indiana ruling alleges that Tippecanoe County Officer Glen Keller told supervisors that after he was dispatched to the house he had checked on the young girl and found her in good well-being. Officer Keller described his actions in an Oct. 28 deposition at the Tippecanoe County prosecutor’s office; however, two days later he admitted that he had never seen the girl during his visit to the home, speaking only to the parents at the home’s door.
The young girl died in March, nine months after Keller’s stop at the home, from traumatic head injuries after what investigators suspect was months of abuse by her father and stepmother.
Suppose a loved one or you were facing personal injury and police intervention were needed would you want the officers to investigate the matter thoroughly in order to ensure that everyone was safe?
As personal injury lawyers, we know that when it comes to children’s injuries, it is best to be as thorough as possible when it comes to medical treatment. Hopefully, we can prevent future accidents from happening in the future.
