More Product Liability Concerns For Chinese Imports

Posted in Products Liability, Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Recent products liability lawsuits related to defective Chinese drywall in southern states already have some consumers worried about buying certain things from China.  A new problem with Chinese products could make matters even worse.

The latest defective Chinese product you ask?

Condoms.

Reports from health officials say knock-off condoms produced in some factories provide very little protection and can cause the spread of diseases.  China’s latest products liability problem can damage the thought that using a condom constitutes safe sex.

Imports from other countries are important to the United States economy, but our San Diego personal injury lawyers believe that those imports need to be made with the same standards that we have for our products.  If import manufacturers are purely in the business for profit — even at the expense of the consumer, then our personal injury lawyers feel those manufacturers either need to make their products safer or we shouldn’t allow them to ship items with products liabilities to our country.

One sex shop owner, Wan Yunsu, stocks her shelf in Beijing with a domestic brand, but she is weary about putting them up because they might be defective products.

“Some manufacturers are cutting corners,” Yunsu said.  “And it’s all about the profit.”

Back in November, health investigators in China’s Hunan province gave details about a raid last July at an underground workshop where they found workers lubricating condoms with vegetable oil in unsterile conditions — then sold the counterfeits as brand name products.  In 2008, police conducted a similar raid in the Zhejiang province where half a million defective condoms were confiscated.

Authorities in China have estimated that about one-third of condoms used in some parts of China are fake even though improvements have been made in food and drug regulation.  Those same counterfeits have made their way to the United States.  In 2008, law enforcement in New York seized millions of fake Trojan-brand condoms that were sold in small discount stores in New York, Texas and Virginia.

Our firm’s personal injury lawyers hope that you are safe and cautious about where you get contraceptives.  If having sex is your decision, you should always buy from a reputable pharmacy or grocery store.  It’s your choice when to have sex but be smart about protecting yourself.

Defective Floormats Suspected In Fatal Car Accident

Posted in Car Accidents, Friday, September 11th, 2009

In recent San Diego car accident news an off-duty California highway patrol officer and his family died in a car accident when the accelerator on the Lexus they were in reportedly got stuck.  After further investigation, the cause of the car crash was caused when the accelerator was trapped by a floormat.

Our car accident lawyers know that nothing is made perfectly.  Car accidents are caused by design defects every year, many of which could have been prevented if only car manufacturers had thoroughly tested their products for safety.  Unfortunately this particular design defect in the cars’ floormats led to the untimely wrongful deaths of four family members.
